The papers are pretty light on details. My understanding is this is roughly equivalent to inpainting but in the temporal dimension. (I think) I understand the following: 1) CLIP is used to get an embedding of the image that is concatenated to the encoding of the text prompt, so that the diffusion model has access to that semantic information. 2) In the latent space the first (latent) frame is fixed to the VAE embedding of the image (this is actually maybe not that simple since the VAE also compresses in the temporal dimension) throughout the denoising process.
